The Cycle of Progression is a phrase that I use to describe the continuous social economic advancement of generations. According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary, the definition of the word cycle is, "an interval of time during which a sequence of a recurring succession of events or phenomena is completed," and progression is defined as, "the action or process of progression: advance." By putting these two definitions together I define the cycle of progression as: the recurring phenomenon of advancement.
This concept derives from the idea that there is a cycle of poverty, a culture that is being passed on from generation-to-generation that keeps impoverished people impoverished. I believe the best way to create this movement toward progress is to alter what is passed on across generations. This allows us to exit the cycle that keeps us trapped in poverty, so that we may enter into a cycle that keeps us advancing socially, economically and, most importantly, responsibly.
The first step is to simply want this for yourself. But,
understand that the cycle of progression is bigger than any individual. It only
starts with an individual and is passed on. Otherwise, there is no cycle. I have
created this blog to provoke not only thought, but action. In my following
posts I will outline how we all can create a Cycle of Progression for ourselves
and our families. I personally have chosen to leave my culture of poverty
behind and am living in a Cycle of Progression. Does anyone else want to live
this way?
